What is Guided Reading?
"The teacher works with a small group of children who have similar reading processes. The teacher selects and introduces a new book. Childen read the whole text to themselves. Upon completion of reading, the teacher selects one or two points to present to the small group." During a typical guided reading lesson, other students are working at centers set-up around the classroom.Guided reading groups are temporary and change over time. Periodically, teachers assess student reading levels using the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System. Data utilized from this assessment may result in changes to the student composition of the guided reading group.Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children by Fountas & PinnellA short video clip of guided reading is coming soon.
